Intravenous Nutrient Infusions
IV nutrient drips offer a focused and direct way to attain quick and large dosages of beneficial essential nutrients to the cells. Many of the benefits from taking certain key nutrients are lost when taken orally. The use of large doses of key amino acids, vitamins, minerals and amino acids effectively provide immediate absorption of essential nutrients instead of getting lost and underutilized with oral methods. Are you into competitive sports or a professional athlete? We offer IV therapies tailored to your specific needs as well. Progressive physicians and leading edge clinics have used IV nutrient infusions for decades. It is only recently that compounding pharmacies have made key nutrients and botanicals available in the IV form. This makes for greater potential for key nutrient and immune enhancing formulas to be available in the most efficient way possible. We use only the best products from the most reputable compounding pharmacies. We have used nutrient IV infusions for 15 years with excellent results for the following:
- Sports Medicine Applications
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Epstein Barr Virus
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Chronic Rashes
- Chelation & more
What are the advantages of intravenous vitamin therapy?
- Nutrients delivered directly to cells through the bloodstream… With intravenous nutrient therapy, as soon as your infusion starts, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are quickly circulated through your bloodstream and delivered to cells, where they are immediately available for use. It’s like “direct deposit”; in IV vitamin therapy, there’s no waiting for the nutrients to clear the digestive system and the liver. Malabsorption, a common problem from digestive issues is avoided- nutrients are delivered quickly and efficiently.
- Fewer side effects… The concentrated dose simply cannot be achieved by taking the nutrients orally; the bulk of vitamins and minerals swallowed in pill or liquid form is excreted, with very little actually absorbed into the bloodstream.Intravenous vitamin therapy bypasses the stomach and intestines. This means no upset stomach or intestinal problems like cramps, nausea, or diarrhea, which sometimes result from taking high doses of certain vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C and magnesium.
- Allows for high-dose therapy necessary for effective treatment outcomes… Research has shown that there are specific blood or tissue concentrations of certain nutrients that must be achieved in order for them to be pharmacologically active. Vitamin C is a good example of such a nutrient. Numerous studies show high concentrations of Vitamin C are required in the serum and intracellular fluid before it can exert its beneficial effects.
- Treatment of specific medical conditions based on clinical evidence and/or study data… Intravenous nutrient therapy is not a trendy natural health fad. The value of IV vitamin therapy has been shown in clinical trials for a plethora of medical conditions. At Maui Regenerative Medicine, we design treatment protocols based on this clinical data.
Our Intravenous Drip Menu
For Prevention and treatment of chronic and acute conditions
This nutrient drip has been used by physicians since Dr. Myer created this cocktail in the 1930’s. Treat and/or prevent influenza type illnesses. Comprised of B complex, B12, 5,6, Micro trace elements, Calcium, Magnesium, and Ascorbic Acid. Great to ward off early onset of flu. Indications and actions:
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Epstein Barr Virus (mononucleosis)
- Chronic depression
- Acute and Chronic muscle spasms and generalized achiness/fibromyalgia
- Acute infections
- Reactive allergic conditions-seasonal upper respiratory allergies
- Skin-chronic rashes-urticari
- Acute and chronic asthma.
This protocol utilizes IV support to treat chronic and acute viral, fungal and bacterial infections. Chronic EBV and Candida Albicans has been treated successfully with this infusion. Chronic bacterial and intestinal parasitic infections that are not amenable to antibiotic therapy are also treated. Intravenous magnesium sulfate has been clinically proven to help in the treatment of several kinds of cardiovascular disease. Minerals are extremely important in the regulation of nerve impulses and muscle contraction. Of course, the heart is no exception to this – it’s a muscle! There is a delicate balance between sodium and potassium and between calcium and magnesium. Disruptions to this balance can lead to irregular heartbeat (called arrhythmia) and other problems.
How does intravenous magnesium therapy help heart problems? Magnesium relaxes smooth muscle throughout the body. This includes arterial smooth muscles and the heart muscle itself. IV magnesium therefore dilates blood vessels, improving blood flow and reducing blood pressure; relaxing the heart muscle leads to a slower, more regular heartbeat – and fewer arrhythmias. People who are given intravenous magnesium after a heart attack have a much better chance of survival. Magnesium improves blood oxygen and blood circulation. When tissues such as the heart or brain are ischemic, they are starved for oxygen and vital nutrients like glucose; this results in damage to the tissue – heart attack or stroke. Magnesium is critical for preventing ischemia. Magnesium is also a natural calcium channel blocker. Calcium channel blockers are medications that help reduce the heart’s workload. If you are currently taking calcium channel blockers, IV magnesium therapy boosts their effect – slowing down heart rate and reducing the occurrence of arrhythmias.
Athletic Performance IV Menu
Are you looking to boost performance and increase strength as well as reduce fatigue and shorten recovery time?
Enhancing athletic performance is important to many of our patients at Maui Regenerative Medicine. Competitive athletes push their bodies to the limit, consuming large amounts of vital nutrients as a normal part of metabolism. The treatments we prescribe include not only vitamins, but also minerals and other nutrients – such as amino acids and other vitally important organic molecules. Designed to help athletes maintain their edge and have plenty of reserve for long distance / endurance sports events. Provides the electrolyte balance and nutrient profile needed to go longer during running, paddling and swimming events. Metabolism converts carbohydrates, fats, and proteins found in food into energy through a complex series of chemical reactions. These reactions are catalyzed by enzymes. Metabolic enzymes require vitamin and mineral cofactors, including: Vitamin C, B-complex, Magnesium and Zinc. Effective after long endurance sports for sore muscles, joints and tendons. Great relief for chronic arthritic pain. Part of the treatment for patients who have chronic pain in low back, knees, shoulder, hip or neck. (see MSM IV info) The intravenous nutrient therapies we find most helpful for athletic performance enhancement include: Myers Cocktail and IV Glutathione. The use of intravenous glutathione for this purpose is based on recent studies showing that administering IV N-acetylcysteine – which is a precursor to glutathione – both increases stamina and delays fatigue during strenuous, prolonged exercise in endurance-trained individuals. The logical conclusion is that by giving IV glutathione, we should be able to get a better and more direct result.
Muscle & Joint Pain Therapy Menu
The nutritional supplement MSM has become much more popular in recent years, and for good reason: it has helped many people with arthritis and other musculoskeletal problems, grabbing much of the spotlight away from therapies like glucosamine and chondroitin.
We are seeing excellent results with intravenous MSM for a wide variety of health problems, such as:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Neuropathic pain
What is MSM? MSM is a naturally-occurring, organic sulfur-containing molecule with a very simple structure. It is most often found in foods like milk, coffee, tea, and tomatoes. Its function is to supply the sulfur required to make amino acids such as cysteine and methionine. MSM has two important mechanisms of action: Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Because so many diseases are caused by, or exacerbated by, the processes of inflammation and/or oxidation, using IV MSM as a treatment makes sense from intuitive perspective alone. IV MSM may also be useful in treating allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Studies show MSM reduces binding of LDL to blood vessels, suggesting that its anti-inflammatory mechanism may protect against atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. At Maui Regenerative Medicine we don’t claim that Vitamin C can solve all your problems, but we do believe that Vitamin C has an important place in the treatment and prevention of a variety of diseases. This belief is based on an ever-increasing body of scientific evidence. Did you know that Vitamin C is required for your body to make seratonin and other neurotransmitters? Is anti-inflammatory and a potent anti oxidant? Supports the immune system? Helps in some neurological diseases? It is also one of the key nutrients for the repair and building of collagen.
What’s so important about INTRAVENOUS Vitamin C? It’s so much easier to take than a pill! High dose Vitamin C given orally causes stomach upset and diarrhea (usually anything over 5g/day causes problems). If you take megadoses of Vitamin C orally, not much is absorbed; most is excreted. IV administration results in much higher plasma and intracellular levels of Vitamin C than would be possible orally.
How much Vitamin C can be safely given via IV? Infusions of 10-20 g are given routinely. Doses of 100g at a time have been given with no side effects. A small group of patients, particularly those of Middle Eastern descent, may have a genetic disorder called G6PD deficiency; those patients should not receive high-dose Vitamin C therapy. Therefore, we use a simple blood test to rule out this condition before initiating treatment.
Which conditions do we find we can treat effectively with intravenous Vitamin C?
- Cold and Flu: shortens both severity and duration of illness
- Wound Healing: very useful for post cosmetic surgery cases
- Depression: Vitamin C helps raise neurotransmitter levels
- Fatigue: Revitalizes, boosts energy; best in combination with B complex vitamins
- Allergies: Vitamin C has antihistamine properties
- Certain Neurological Conditions: We often give Vitamin C as a part of a combination IV nutrient therapy with the Myers Cocktail, this allows us to take advantage of synergistic biochemical effects.
A small injection of B12 and the other B complexes can have a very beneficial effect on oxygen carrying and tissue regeneration. B12 and folic acid are essential and are many times under utilized or provided with today’s diets. Vegetarian and raw food diets may sometimes not provide some of these nutrients and a monthly booster can make a big difference in how you feel. Generalized fatigue may indicate the administration of this B vitamin injection.
Fatigue is one of the most common health complaints of patients we see at the IV Nutrient Therapy Center, often occurring along with depression and stress. Many of our patients tell us they are absolutely exhausted after they come home from work. Or they just can’t seem to get going in the morning; even after a good night’s sleep, they wake up feeling tired. Of course, there are many well-defined causes of fatigue, including bacterial and viral infections; the flu is notorious for making you feel “knocked out.” Diet can also be a factor: if you eat too many simple carbohydrates like sugary sweets and high fructose corn syrup, you have a quick rise in energy but then a prolonged “crash.”
Hidden Causes of Fatigue
Sometimes, the cause of fatigue is hard to identify. Vitamin deficiencies, particularly deficiency in B vitamins, can also cause fatigue. So can hormonal imbalances – particularly those found in PMS and adrenal insufficiency. Other underlying chronic disease states, such as inflammatory bowel disease, under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism), and connective tissue disorders may also be responsible for your fatigue. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) affects millions of Americans. For many years, however, it was not given the attention it deserved, and countless sufferers were told it was not a real disease, or it was all in their heads. When you have CFS, you feel like you are always tired, and there doesn’t seem to be an obvious medical cause. For this reason, CFS is really a diagnosis of exclusion, because other possibilities have been ruled out. An important breakthrough came with the finding that a significant percentage of CFS patients had evidence of infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the same virus that causes mononucleosis! However, many CFS patients have no detectable EBV in their system. We will first run a series of diagnostic tests to try to determine the underlying cause of your fatigue.
The following types of IV vitamin therapy have been shown to be helpful in treating fatigue:
Myers Cocktail including a high dose of Vitamin C followed by a Vitamin B-12 shot given intramuscularly.
